N-propanol (n-propanol), also known as 1-propanol, is an organic compound with simple structure CH3CH2CH2OH, molecular formula C3H8O and molecular weight 60.10. At normal temperature and pressure, n-propanol is a clear, colorless liquid with a strong musty taste similar to rubbing alcohol. It can dissolve in water, ethanol and ether. Propional is generally synthesized from ethylene by carbonyl group and then reduced. N-propanol can be used as solvent instead of ethanol with lower boiling point, and can also be used for chromatographic analysis.
